These medications are primarily used for the short-term treatment of severe insomnia.
Zopiclone: A hypnotic agent that helps you fall asleep faster and reduces nighttime awakenings. It is typically prescribed for a duration of 2–4 weeks to prevent dependency.
Zolpidem (Ambien): Used for sleep onset (falling asleep) and sleep maintenance.
Expert Note: Patients should be aware of "complex sleep behaviors" (like sleep-walking or sleep-driving) which can occur if the patient is not fully awake after taking this medication.
These medications work by enhancing the effects of GABA , a natural chemical in the body that produces a calming effect.
Alprazolam (Xanax): Highly effective for the acute management of generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) and panic disorders. Due to its rapid onset, it is strictly intended for short-term use.

To ensure your safety and the effectiveness of your treatment, please adhere to the following:
Risk of Dependency: These medications can be habit-forming. They should be used at the lowest effective dose for the shortest duration possible.
Avoid Alcohol: Never consume alcohol while taking these medications, as it significantly increases the risk of dangerous respiratory depression and extreme sedation.
Drug Interactions: Inform our pharmacists if you are taking any opioid pain medications, as combining them with benzodiazepines can be life-threatening.
